NHL: San Jose 5, Buffalo 2

San Jose, Calif. -- Joe Pavelski and Jed Ortmeyer scored two goals each to lead the San Jose Sharks to a 5-2 win over Buffalo Saturday in a matchup of division leaders.

Dany Heatly scored the other San Jose goal and Evgeni Nabokov turned in 38 saves.

Buffalo had goals from Tim Connolly and Jason Pominville. Ryan Miller faced 23 shots.

The Sabres, who lead the Northeast Division, lost their third in a row. The Pacific Division-leading Sharks won their fifth consecutive game.

Pavelski put San Jose ahead for good with a goal at 6:31 of the third period that broke a 2-2 tie. Ortmeyer made it 4-2 with a goal off a Buffalo turnover at 10:27. Ortmeyer added an empty-net goal to close out the scoring.

Buffalo took a 1-0 lead in the first period on Connolly's goal, but Pavelski evened the score at 2:07 of the second period. Heatly put San Jose ahead 2-1 at 14:00 of the second period, but Pominville made it 2-2 on a power play 18 seconds into the third period.
