Macy's parade may have new route

New York -- The annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade could soon travel a different route through New York, a Macy's spokeswoman says.

Spokeswoman Elina Kazan said city officials are considering moving the parade's route off of Broadway to accommodate the large balloons used, the New York Post said Sunday.

"We're working with the city to identify a route that's best for everyone," Kazan said.

The current parade route begins at 77th Street and Central Park West and turns onto Broadway at Columbus Circle.

The Post said that route has been used for more than 50 years and any changes could cause significant losses for businesses along the parade route.

More than 3.5 million people watch the 84-year-old parade each year, some renting out nearby hotel rooms months in advance to get a great view of the balloons and floats.
