Over half of the US adults play video games : survey

New York, December 8: Almost one in every five Americans plays video games everyday, says a survey released by the Pew Internet & American Life Project. The survey that was conducted last year on about 2,045 adults has found that over half of the adults in the United States love to play video games.

That fact applies for people of all age groups but younger ones are exceptionally crazy about video gaming, according to the survey.

Another Pew survey found that 97 percent of the teens i.e. almost every teenager loves to play video games. 81 percent of the younger adults between age group of 18-29 and 63 percent of the senior adults ageing 65 years and above, too like to kill their free time playing video games.

The data was also analyzed based upon education level of gamers. It showed that 57 percent of youngsters who go to college and 51 percent of high school students are hard-core gamers while those who have not yet completed high school comprise 40 percent of gamers.

Survey has also found that adults play more with younger and teenage children than with elder ones. It found that 66 percent of people who have children below 17 years of age loved to play video games, while only 47 percent of people with children above 17 years played games. In addition, 31 percent of the adults preferred to play video games with their children.

Amanda Lenhart, senior research specialist at Pew said, "As various people become more accustomed to spending their entertainment time playing games, we will continue to see this spread throughout society, There are people who talk about games as a new genre, a new art form".

Women are also not much behind men in playing video games. If there are 55 percent of males into gaming then females closely trail them with 50 percent. Gamers believe gaming is way more interesting and full of activity than watching television.

Keeping in mind the popularity of games among people of all the ages, video games companies are now introducing ‘casual games’ for women and families, which are relatively easier to play.
