Police have officially confirmed that Hollywood actor Owen Wilson had attempted suicide. Earlier on Sunday, Wilson was taken to St. John’s Hospital by ambulance, after his brother Luke found him in his Santa Monica home with his wrists slashed.
Making the confirmation, Los Angeles Police Department said the Santa Monica Police Department had received a 911 call to Wilson’s address in Santa Monica on Sunday. The reason for the call was logged in the department’s Call for Service report as ‘attempted suicide’.
Wilson has since been in hospital, with news and speculation flying thick and fast around him. There was speculation as to whether he had also overdosed on drugs. That speculation was put to rest by his attorney, in a statement to Access Hollywood.
Reacting to speculation that Wilson had been discovered, along with slashed wrists, with an empty pill bottle, the attorney said Wilson had not overdosed on anything. He said doctors had not pumped Wilson’s stomach, and that the only drugs found in his system were antidepressants.
On Monday, a hospital spokesman had said Wilson was in good condition. Currently, he is at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and recovering well. The actor has asked people to respect his privacy during this difficult period. As if in response to that gesture, the City Attorney’s office in Santa Monica has agreed not to release details of Luke’s 911 call.
Following his attempted suicide, Wilson has decided to opt out of a movie project he was involved with at the time of the incident. The 38-year old star was shooting for the comedy, Tropic Thunder. He was acting in a supporting role in the movie, with the director, Ben Stiller, himself in the lead role.
Wilson announced his decision to withdraw after consultation with Stiller, a report in Variety said. Wilson and Stiller have formed quite a good combination in recent times, acting in movies like Starsky and Hutch, Zoolander, Meet the Parents, and also the Royal Tenenbaums.

Get well soon.
My prayers are with Owen Wilson and his family. I wish him a speedy recovery and a wonderful life ahead.
