COL BKB: Clemson 83, North Carolina 64

Clemson, S.C. -- Trevor Booker helped Clemson to a rocket-like start Wednesday and the No. 19 Tigers employed a withering defense to overwhelm No. 13 North Carolina 83-64.

The Tar Heels, troubled by turnovers all season, committed 26 of them and the mistakes led to 33 Clemson points. The Tigers defeated North Carolina for the first time in 11 attempts.

Clemson opened a 20-point lead with 7:45 to play in the first half and the Tar Heels could never make a run. Booker hit 8-of-12 shots and scored 21 points while Demontez Stitt had 20.

Tanner Smith made five of Clemson's 14 steals. The Tigers improved to 14-3 for the season and to 2-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

North Carolina (12-5, 1-1) was led by 17 points from Dexter Strickland.

The teams have met 142 times and this was just the 20th victory for the Tigers.
