Los Angeles -- Hollywood film star Tom Cruise is in talks to star in a big-screen adaptation of the stage musical "Rock of Ages," the film's director said.
"It's all looking really good," director Adam Shankman -- whose directing credits include "Hairspray" and "The Wedding Planner" -- told E! News.
"I was really inspired and impressed by him as Les Grossman and his willingness to go for it," Shankman said, referring to the over-the-top, dancing film executive Cruise played in the comedy "Tropic Thunder." "He and I had talked about doing a musical, so I thought I'd talk to him about 'Rock of Ages.'"
So, will the action icon sing in the movie?
"Of course, he will," Shankman told E! News. "If he's in it, he has to."
