Los Angeles, February 6: Here is a good news for all 'Sex and the City' fans.

A sequel to the 2008 hit movie, starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, is in the works, movie studio New Line Cinema has confirmed it.

The studio confirmed on Thursday that all four "sex" girls will be back on big screen for the sequel to last year’s huge box office hit "Sex and the City: The Movie". All the actresses have signed contracts for the latest installment of the movie, it said.

According to the studio, the film's writer-director Michael Patrick King has also signed a deal to write the script for the sequel.

King says in a statement: "I'm very excited to work with these amazing actresses again, and would love to give everyone more information about the sequel, but I'm busy with my Sex life."

“Sex and the City” is a 2008 American romantic comedy film adaptation of the HBO comedy series of the same name which itself is based on Candace Bushnell’s novel of the same name.

The first film is about four female friends: Carrie Bradshaw (Parker), Samantha Jones (Cattrall), Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Davis), and Miranda Hobbes (Nixon), who are single women in their mid-thirties or forties, and living in New York City.

The film experienced a huge commercial success, making $415 million at worldwide box offices. The movie achieved number one spot in the UK and made $56.8 million in its three-day opening weekend in the United States. The budget for the original "SATC" film was $65 million.

King hasn’t started on the script of second movie yet, but shooting will reportedly begin this summer, and the film will likely be released by New Line parent Warner Bros in summer 2010.
