Taylor Momsen, best known for her role as Jenny Humphrey on the CW hit series Gossip Girl, was released Wednesday (October 22) afternoon from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after treatment for a throat infection.

Momsen was hospitalized earlier this week after she suffered a "severe, potentially life-threatening throat infection."

“I have been treating Miss Taylor Momsen for the last few days. She has been hospitalized for a severe, potentially life-threatening throat infection since Sunday,” Dr. Shawn Nasseri, an ear, nose and throat specialist who had been treating the 15-year-old actress, said in a statement.

"With these kinds of infections the throat can swell and it can close up the throat to dangerous levels," Dr. Nasseri continued. "But she is doing beautifully. She has pretty much made a full recovery.”

“She has been an excellent patient, and after aggressive antibiotics and medications, she is expected to make a full recovery in the next three to five days,” Dr. Nasseri continued.

Calling Momsen “an excellent patient," Nasseri said the actress has been responding positively to antibiotics and other medications, and is expected to make a full recovery in the next three to five days.

According to Us Weekly's website, Momsen, who films "Gossip Girl" in New York City, woke up with a sore throat while in Los Angeles to take an exam for school.

"She thought it was just a common cold, but was advised to see an ear, nose and throat specialist before getting on a plane back to New York," the magazine quoted a source close to Momsen as saying. After seeing an ENT specialist, she found out it was more than just a sore throat, the source added.

Momsen’s mother reportedly flew from New York to L.A. to get her, and the two are expected to fly back to NYC later this week.

The CW network hopes Momsen will return to Gossip Girl's New York City set by the end of the week. "Taylor Momsen is a beloved member of our Gossip Girl cast and we are happy to report she is on the road to a speedy recovery," the CW network said in a statement. "We all look forward to her planned return to work on Friday."

Momsen, born Taylor Michel Momsen on July 26, 1993 in St. Louis, Missouri, is an American teen actress, who currently portrays the character Jenny Humphrey on the CW television series Gossip Girl, which is based on the book series by Cecily von Ziegesar.

She began acting at age three, with a national commercial for Shake 'N' Bake and a role in The Prophet's Game. In 2000, she played Cindy Lou Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Two years later Momsen got roles in two motion pictures: Hansel & Gretel, in which she played Gretel, and Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams, in which she played Alexandra, the President's daughter. She also appeared in the 2006 film ‘Saving Shiloh’ and as Molly in the 2007 Walt Disney Pictures film ‘Underdog.’
