Injured Misty May-Treanor leaves 'Dancing'by Shubha Krishnappa - October 7, 2008 - 0 comments
" title="Injured Misty May-Treanor leaves 'Dancing'" /> U.S. Olympic beach volleyball champ Misty May-Treanor has been eliminated from "Dancing With the Stars," not by viewer votes or lackluster scores by judges, but due to an injury she suffered during rehearsals. May-Treanor was practicing with her professional partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy on Friday (October 3), when she sustained the injury that required immediate medical attention. She was taken to Cedars Sinai hospital for the treatment, ABC had confirmed in a statement a day after the injury. While rehearsing the Lindy Hop on Friday, the two-time Olympic gold medalist suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in her left leg, forcing her to opt out of the popular ABC dancing competition. "I heard a pop," said May-Treanor. "I was doing the Lindy Hop. I thought I flew out of control and hit the judges' stairs, or it felt like I got hit in the back with a baseball bat. Then, I just couldn't put weight on it." The 31-year-old volleyball champion appeared on Monday with a cast on her left leg that went almost up to her knee to announce that she's out of the DWTS. “I ruptured my Achilles tendon and from that point on I knew I couldn’t continue. I’m out and I’m really bummed. We don’t know why these things happen. They could happen to anyone. I feel like I was only just beginning here,” she said. May-Treanor, who had a previous knee injury from playing volleyball, said though the injury has forced her to leave the dancing competition, but it can not stop her from competing in beach volleyball. She added that the injury no way could affect her plans to try for a third gold medal in 2012. "I plan on coming back to the beach," she said in an interview later in the day her departure from the sow was announced. For her last performance May-Treanor had received some of her highest praise from the panel of DWTS judges after performing an intense Paso Doble with dancing partner Maks. The duo had consistently received 21 points out of 30 for the host of dances they performed on the show. This is not the first time any contestant got injured on the show’s latest season instead Misty’s injury is the third so far on ‘Dancing’. Earlier this season, comedian Jeffrey Ross suffered a scratched cornea after his dancing partner, Edyta Sliwinska, accidentally poked him in the eye during a rehearsal. He was immediately rushed to the hospital. Last month, reality TV star Kim Kardashian sustained a nasty cut on her foot, just ahead of Alphabet's ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ which premiered Sept. 22. She reportedly sliced her foot open on a glass coffee table. She was rushed to the New York Presbyterian Hospital for the treatment. Professional dancer Karina Smirnoff also sprained her ankle during a rehearsal with partner Rocco Di Spirito. |
