Sex Addiction Takes David Duchovny To Rehab

In another incident of real life following reel life, American actor David Duchovny, who has always played roles of a sex obsessed womanizer, in many of his works, today confirmed through his lawyer, the fact that he was receiving treatment for sex addiction.

The 48 year old ‘californication’ star, who began his career in the erotic TV series, 'Red Shoe Diaries', has been admitted to rehab clinic for sex addiction.

"I have voluntarily entered a facility for the treatment of sex addiction.” Said the actor.

The actor who has won an Emmy nomination had his career hit an all time high with the TV series – ‘The X Files’. He played the character of special agent Fox Mudler in the series, which gathered world wide fame.

Married to ‘Deep Impact’ actress, Téa Leoni in 1997, David has two children, daughter Madelaine West, 9, and son Kyd, 6.

“I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family."

David, who enjoys the reputation of being a woman lover, has confessed in an earlier interview that he likes women to drugs. His character in the current popular series - Californication echoes his real life traits way too closely, jumping from one relationship to another.

David however defends by saying that “People always want to rush to say, ‘He’s an addict.’ People have called this character a sex addict, and to me that’s weird. It’s been written that you can be a sex addict within a marriage.”

For many it is speculation time that whether his addiction to sex was confined to his marriage or crossed beyond its boundaries.

However, David’s views on his marriage, quite say it all. “It was a turning point in my life. A conjunction of timing, maturity, luck and attraction. All the pieces fell into place. When you’re married you have to deal with yourself. You can’t sublimate your pain with drugs and other women. Or should that be women and other drugs?”

Despite the fact that he is a self confessed sex addict, Duchovny does not enjoy the many sex scenes of the current ‘Californication’ series, finding them “awkward” with the crew members all staring around them as the scenes are shot. In his own words he finds them to be quite “unsexy”.

Upon knowing David’s rehabilitation to the clinic, the network Showtime, which broadcasts Californication, which has the second season on its way soon, released a statement: "All of us at Showtime wish David and his family the best during this very private time." sympathising with the actor in his time of turmoil.

The actor has won a Golden Globe award for his role in the Californication.
