Actress Christina Applegate Diagnosed With Breast Cancer

Christina Applegate, the American Emmy Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated actress, is suffering from breast cancer, her publicist Ame Van Iden revealed Saturday.

Applegate, best known for her roles on the TV comedies "Married with Children" and "Samantha Who?," has been diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer, and is undergoing treatment for the problem, publicist Ame Van Iden revealed this shocking news in a statement released to several entertainment news outlets.

"Christina Applegate was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer. Benefiting from early detection through a doctor ordered MRI, the cancer is not life threatening. Christina is following the recommended treatment of her doctors and will have a full recovery," the statement reads.

Applegate will maintain her regular shooting schedule on “Samantha Who?” while undergoing treatment, the rep said.

The 36-year-old actress is scheduled to appear Sept. 5 alongside Meryl Streep, Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson, Charlize Theron and Sally Field at the “Stand Up to Cancer” one-hour television special, which will air simultaneously on CBS, NBC and ABC.

Applegate has earned Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her starring role in ABC's comedy "Samantha Who?" She is best-known for playing the very attractive and promiscuous Kelly Bundy on the Fox television network sitcom “Married… with Children”.

Applegate dated Lee Grivas, the aspiring photographer and skateboarder who was found dead in his Hollywood apartment on Tuesday (July, 1), on and off for more than two years. She was previously married to actor Jonathon Schaech.

The actress married longtime boyfriend Schaech on October 20, 2001 in a small mixed-religion Palm Springs ceremony attended by family and close friends. Four years later, on December 5, 2005, the publicists of Applegate and Schaech confirmed that they had filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court, and their divorce was finalized Aug. 10, 2007.
