Hours after introducing the new action game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Nintendo Co. Ltd. has admitted that some customers are experiencing disc read errors with the game. And, acting promptly, the Wii gaming console maker has set up a free factory repair service for customers who are unable to play the game correctly.

According to a statement published by Nintendo on a newly created Website, “Super Smash Bros. Brawl utilizes a double-layer disc which has a large memory capacity. A very small percentage of Wii consoles may have trouble consistently reading data off this large capacity disc if there is some contamination on the lens of the disc drive."

SSBB, one of the most anticipated games of the last several years, with dozens of characters, settings, options and ways to play, hit the market on March 9.

Nintendo has set up a Website to deal with the problem that is due to the fact that SSBB is the first game to take advantage of the Wii's dual layer lens.

The previously unused lens in the unit is more sensitive to dirty, grime, smoke, and other assorted filth, preventing it from reading the rather fancy high-capacity double-layer discs the game is stored on.

Responding swiftly, Nintendo said it will fix the glitch free of charge, and asked the customers to return their console to the company for specialized cleaning. In addition, Nintendo will also bear all shipping and repair costs.

"Nintendo has specialized cleaning equipment that can resolve this problem," the Customer Service and Repair page of the Website reads.

It also asks customers not to attempt to clean the lens themselves, as it can damage their system. Returning your disc to the shop will not solve the problem as the issue lies with the hardware and not the software, the Website says.

Similar problems with the more sensitive format were first reported in Japan when the game was released there at the end of January.

Last month, the action-packed fighting game SSBB became the fastest Nintendo Wii title to sell a million units in Japan, selling 1.08 million copies in just eleven days.

This combat-filled game features dozens of Nintendo characters from Mario to Link to Pikachu, as well as new characters like Solid Snake, a gritty soldier from Konami’s hugely popular Metal Gear series, and Sonic The Hedgehog.

Nintendo hopes the game would draw in fans of all kinds.
