NBC Universal to be more eco-friendlyby MT Bureau - May 25, 2007 - 0 comments
" title="NBC Universal to be more eco-friendly" /> Universal City, Calif. -- NBC Universal has revealed a set of initiatives, called the "Get on Board" campaign, to boost the California company's green image. Led by CEO Jeff Zucker, the company committed to alleviating the environmental impact of its film and television production, cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 3 percent by 2012, Variety reported Thursday. "We must run our businesses in a way that respects and protects our most valuable resource, the environment," Zucker said during an event highlighting "ecomagination" initiatives of GE, its parent company. "This comprehensive program is a first series of steps that we hope will set a new course for the entire industry." NBC Universal said the upcoming film "Evan Almighty" is a model for future eco-friendly productions. The company said it negated the film's carbon impact by making a donation to the Conservation Fund, which planted 2,000 trees, and donating reusable materials to Habitat for Humanity. NBC Universal is setting up a "green council" of senior executives to set objectives and guide the effort. Copyright 2007 by United Press International. |
