Market green at open
Mumbai -- The markets have opened with a positive bias headed by buying in heavy weights like Bharti, BHEL, Bajaj Auto, Guj Ambuja, HDFC Bank and Reliance Industries. The BSE 30-share Sensex has gained by 103 points at 10919 and the NSE 50-share Nifty is up by 28 points at 3179 . ICICI Bank, PNB, Britannia, SBIN, ABB, Hindalco and ONGC are the major gainers among the 50-scrips of Nifty.
GE Shipping's has surged by 3.1% to Rs. 230 after the company’s Board is meeting on Wednesday to consider restructuring, including seeking an extension of the deadline for the demerger. The scrip has touched an intra-day high of Rs. 231 and a low of Rs. 226 and has recorded volumes of over 80 thousand shares on NSE.
Likewise, BHEL has surged by 1.1% to Rs. 2208 as Board of the company is going to make a declaration on bonus shares and stock split today. The scrip has touched an intra-day high of Rs. 2222 and a low of Rs. 2200 and has recorded volumes of over1 lakh shares on NSE.
In the same string, Apollo Tyres Ltd has soared by 2.3% to Rs. 289 after the company announced that it would expend Rs. 5.2bn to set up a facility to make radial tires. The scrip has touched an intra-day high of Rs. 292 and a low of Rs. 284 and has recorded volumes of over 10 thousand shares on NSE.
IGate Global Solutions Ltd has also surged by 1% to Rs. 154, as Symphoni Interactive LLC, a majority owned subsidiary (99.99%) of the Company incorporated in the State of Delaware, USA ,has been merged with the Company. The scrip has touched an intra-day high of Rs. 154 and a low of Rs. 153 and has recorded volumes of over 200 hundered shares on NSE.
In foreign stock exchanges, US shares closed slightly lower on Monday, as growing oil prices triggered worries about inflation ahead of Tuesday's Federal Reserve meeting on interest rates.
European shares dipped. The German DAX Xetra 30 fell 1.7% at 5,627 and the French CAC-40 surrendered 1.7% at 4,956. The UK's FTSE 100 lost a more modest 0.9% at 5,828.
Asian markets have opened on a firm note. The Nikkei in Tokyo climbed by nearly 200 points at 15,353 while the Hang Seng in Hong Kong added 51 points at 17,004, and the Kospi in Seoul jumped 12 points or 1% at 1302. The Straits Times in Singapore was nearly flat at 2462 while the Taiex in Taiwan grew 58 points or 0.9% at 6474.
