Tarapur getting Uranium grant from Russia
Russia has once again lend the helping hand to the nation strengthening the bond of kinship which both nations have been relishing from the past. The Soviet government has agreed to provide country's Tarapur energy station with the required Uranium supply facilitating the working of units one and two of the plant.
The final consent on the deal will be inked during the two day visit of Russian premiere Mikhael Fradkov who arrived at Delhi airport on 16 march. The deal has been pleaded by the Indian government in absence of US grant.Due to required amendment in the US nuclear guidelines and NSG concerns which is gonna be a time consuming affair the Soviet supply will provide the Uranium to the plant catering to the western grid for the meanwhile.
At the Washington province however the deal is receiving criticism by many and is termed as a step weakening International Nuclear guidelines and as an imitation of the US tread towards the Indian nation in the Nuclear sector.
As said by US Arms Control Association Deril Kimball 'this is a mere beginning. In future we can see China offering help to nations like Pakistan on similar lines.'
