Despicable,' 'Dragon' up for top Annie

Burbank -- "Despicable Me," "How to Train Your Dragon," "Tangled," "The Illusionist" and "Toy Story 3" are nominated for Hollywood's Best Animated Feature Annie Award.

Nominations for the 38th annual Annie Awards, which are to honor 2010's best offerings in animation, were announced Monday. The winners are to be announced at a ceremony Feb. 5 at UCLA's Royce Hall in Los Angeles.

The nominees in this year's Best Short Subject category include "Coyote Falls," "Day & Night," "Enrique Wrecks the World," "The Cow Who Wanted to Be a Hamburger" and "The Renter."

In the running for the Best Animated Television Production prize are "Futurama," "Kung Fu Panda Holiday," "Scared Shrekless," "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" and "The Simpsons."

Nominations for Best Animated Television Production for Children are "SpongeBob SquarePants," "Fanboy & Chum Chum," "Adventure Time," "Regular Show" and "Cloudbread."

"This has been an unprecedented year for animation, as the high quality of work represented by our nominees will attest," ASIFA-Hollywood President Antran Manoogian said in a statement Monday. "On behalf of ASIFA-Hollywood, we congratulate all of the nominees and their respective studios."
