Reality show star could face charges

Anderson, Ind. -- The star of MTV's "Teen Mom" reality show could face charges of felony battery related to domestic violence against her child's father, Indiana authorities say.

Police in Anderson are pursuing three counts of battery against Amber Portwood for allegedly hitting, slapping and kicking Gary Shirley, incidents that were captured on film by MTV cameras during the past year, the (Anderson, Ind.) Herald Bulletin reported.

Anderson Police Department Detective Mitch Carroll said in MTV's unedited footage of the fights subpoenaed by authorities, police discovered three separate incidents that warranted criminal charges, the newspaper reported Thursday

Portwood could face felony charges because her daughter, Leah, was allegedly a witness to two of the attacks, Carroll said.

The battery charges have been forwarded to the office of the county prosecutor, he said, but Portwood has not yet been arrested or formally charged.

"As in any case, we will review the evidence to determine what, if any, formal charges should be filed," County Prosecutor Tom Broderick said.
