Ohio zoo replaces longest snake

Columbus, Ohio -- After announcing the death of the longest snake in captivity, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Ohio says it has acquired the python's smaller daughter.

Fluffy, the 24-foot snake, died Oct. 27 of an apparent tumor at the age of 18. The zoo's new snake is 12 years old, and 6 feet shorter than her mother, the Columbus Dispatch reported Thursday.

The daughter arrived Tuesday from the same private breeder who sold Fluffy to the zoo in 2007, zoo officials said.

Fluffy, a 300-pound reticulated python that drew large crowds, had held the Guinness World Record as the longest snake living in captivity.

The zoo says it will ask the public for suggestion for a name for the new snake.
