Flyers ink 11-year deal with Jeff Carter

Philadelphia -- The Philadelphia Flyers have agreed to an 11-year, $58 million contract extension for forward Jeff Carter, Canadian broadcaster TSN reported Saturday.

The network said the 25-year-old has been rewarded with a long-term deal thanks to his impressive start to the 2010-11 season following key contributions in last year's regular season.

The apparent move comes only days after the Flyers locked up the services of another young star, Claude Giroux, who was inked to an $11.25 million deal over three years.

Carter, who scored a hat trick in Philadelphia's 8-1 rout of Carolina Thursday, has racked up eight goals and 14 points in 16 games so far this year. In 2009-10 he scored a team-high 33 goals to go with 61 points in 74 games.

A foot injury limited his role in the Flyers' postseason run to the Stanley Cup Finals last year. He wound up with five goals and seven points in 12 games.
