MLS: Los Angeles 1, Seattle 0

Seattle -- Edson Buddle scored a first-half goal Sunday and the Los Angeles Galaxy held off Seattle for a 1-0 win in the first leg of their Western Conference semifinals.

Buddle launched a long-range shot in the 38th minute, surprising goalkeeper Kasey Keller, to give the Galaxy all the offense they would need.

The Galaxy's defense took over from there, allowing just one shot on goal over the final 45 minutes.

Seattle's Nate Jaqua came the closest to notching an equalizer in the 87th minuted with a tame low shot that Galaxy goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts handled easily.

The second leg of the series is set for Nov. 7 in Los Angeles.
