Evanson tapped as new Steelers investor

Pittsburgh -- Paul Evanson, chairman, president and chief executive of Allegheny Energy, will be named as a new investor in the Pittsburgh Steelers, sources say.

Without naming its sources, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Tuesday that Evanson, formerly president of Florida Power & Light Co., part of one of the largest investor-owned electric utilities in the nation, would take an unknown percentage of the Super Bowl champion Steelers offered by majority owners Dan Rooney and his son, Art Rooney II.

It was not known if Evanson is coming in as a single investor or as head of an investment group comprised of other minority contributors.

The Rooneys have 10 other investors who are considered minority owners. The Post-Gazette said they include film producer Thomas Tull, James Haslam III, the Paul family of Pittsburgh, Bruce Rauner, former Steelers receiver John Stallworth, the Varischetti family, hedge-fund billionaire David Tepper, Ben Statler, Mike Wilkins and the Paul Sams family.
