Crude oil prices rise as OPEC gathers

New York -- Crude oil prices rose during the weekend, topping $75 per barrel prior to a meeting in Luanda, Angola, of oil ministers from exporting countries.

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries gathering, which starts Tuesday, is not expected to end with production cuts. "There is consensus that there is no change. If you look at the price, it is very comfortable," said OPEC Secretary General Abdalla El-Badri, arriving in Luanda Monday, The Financial Times reported.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange, prices rose from Friday's $73.10 per barrel to $75.14. Heating oil prices added 0.0256 cents to $1.9823 per gallon.

Reformulated gasoline prices rose 0.0216 cents to $1.9164 per gallon. Natural gas prices lost 0.119 cents to $5.663 per million British thermal units.

At the retail level, the national average price of unleaded gasoline was $2.59 per gallon Monday, unchanged from Sunday, AAA said.
