Woods won't appear at own charity event

Windermere, Fla. -- Tiger Woods said Monday injuries in a one-vehicle accident last week are extensive enough to keep him out of golf tournaments the rest of the year.

Woods, in a statement on his Web site, said he wouldn't play in this week's Chevron World Challenge, a charity event in California that Woods is hosting.

"I am extremely disappointed that I will not be at my tournament this week," Woods's statement said. "I am certain it will be outstanding event and I'm very sorry that I can't be there."

The announcement added Woods wouldn't "participate in any other tournaments in 2009 and will return to action next year."

Woods was injured outside his Florida home about 2:30 a.m. Friday when he apparently drove his sports utility vehicle into a fire hydrant and tree. He was taken to a hospital and reportedly had lacerations around his mouth.

In a statement Sunday, Woods said, "I have some cuts, bruising and right now I'm pretty sore."

He also said, "This situation is my fault." He cited as "irresponsible" the "many false, unfounded and malicious rumors" about the accident, apparently referring to TMZ.com's claim Woods's facial injuries were caused by his wife and not the accident.

He is yet to speak to authorities about the accident.
