Northeastern Univ. ending football program

Boston -- Northeastern University of Boston said Monday it is ending its intercollegiate football program after 74 seasons.

The university said in a news release the school made the decision to discontinue its football program based on a recommendation from Northeastern Athletic Director Peter Roby.

"Our goal for athletics is to achieve sustainable excellence in all areas," Roby said.

"We do not define success merely through wins and losses. Instead, we recognize that success comes from creating a positive student-athlete experience. The primary motivation for this decision was based on the significant obstacles to providing this experience for our football players."

Despite the end to the school's football program, whose varsity team played its final season game last weekend, the school will maintain its participation in 18 different intercollegiate sports.

"At a time when higher education is critically important to rebuilding our knowledge-based economy," Northeastern President Joseph Aoun said, "universities have an obligation to invest resources in areas of strength -- whether they are competitive athletic programs or cutting-edge academics."

All these being said. Are

All these being said. Are they going to change decisions now? Hopefully, whatever it was that brought them to this decision will be soon resolved. By the way, Premio Foods is one great company who has cool giveaways to cool sports fans out there. Check it out and enjoy. Thanks.
