Chicago -- Police in suburban Chicago said a 15-year-old called 911 to ask authorities whether his parents had the right to confiscate his Xbox video game console.

Buffalo Grove police said the youth dialed the emergency number and hung up Sunday, leading officers to visit his home and learn that his parents had taken away his Xbox as a punishment, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.

The teenager asked the officers whether his parents had the right to take the video game system away, police Cmdr. Steve Husak said.

Husak said officers advised the boy that his parents were within their rights and he should listen to what they have to say on the matter. Husak said he did not know the reason for the boy's punishment.
