NBA: Denver 105, LA Lakers 79

Denver -- Carmelo Anthony turned a close game into a rout by leading Denver to a big third quarter Friday and carrying the Nuggets past the Los Angeles Lakers 105-79.

In a rematch of last season's Western Conference finals, Denver outscored the Lakers 29-8 in the third period after the Nuggets had owned only a two-point advantage at halftime.

The Lakers lost their second game of the season. Los Angeles, Boston and Atlanta are the only teams in the NBA with just two setbacks.

Anthony made 11-of-20 shots and scored 25 points. J.R. Smith added 20 for Denver, which maintained a share of the lead with Portland in the Northwest Division.

Kobe Bryant and Andrew Bynum each scored 19 points for the Lakers. Bryant made just 7-of-17 shots and the Lakers as a whole shot a modest 35 percent from the field.
