NFL fines Chicago QB Jay Cutler

New York -- The NFL fined Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler $20,000 Friday for abusive conduct toward an official Sunday.

The beleaguered signal-caller was hit with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty when he verbally abused an official midway through the third quarter of Chicago's 41-21 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Cutler, acquired from Denver in an off-season trade for Kyle Orton, threw five interceptions Thursday in a 10-6 loss at San Francisco.

Cutler was not available for comment after Friday's fine.

The five interceptions Thursday gave him 17 this season with 14 touchdown passes in nine games.

Chicago defensive tackle Tommie Harris was fined $7,500 for punching guard Deuce Lutui in the same contest.

His fine was levied despite an apology earlier this week.
