It was only the second time in the last three months -- and the fourth time this season -- the Angels had been shut out. Los Angeles has lost six of its last eight and its lead over Texas in the American League West was reduced to four games.
Cahill allowed a two-out single in the fourth inning to Vladimir Guerrero and a leadoff double to Jeff Mathis in the sixth.
Mathis reached third on a ground out by Chone Figgins, but neither of the next two batters could get the ball out of the infield and Cahill (7-12) survived his only major problem of the game.
The only other Los Angeles hit came on a two-out, bunt single in the ninth by Torii Hunter. Andrew Bailey then got Guerrero on a ground out to end the game and collect his 19th save.
Ryan Sweeney put Oakland in front with a second-inning home run and Sweeney scored on Daric Barton's single in the sixth.
The loss went to Ervin Santana (7-7), who gave up both runs on eight hits in six innings.
