'Survivor' star returns to prison

Providence, R.I. -- Former "Survivor" star Richard Hatch, who was serving a federal sentence for tax evasion in home confinement, has been remanded to a Massachusetts jail.

The Providence (R.I.) Journal said Wednesday the reason Hatch was taken to the Barnstable County Correctional Facility in Bourne, Mass., the previous day remained unclear

Hatch was convicted in 2006 of failing to pay taxes on the $1 million he won in the debut season of the reality competition series, "Survivor." He was imprisoned until May when he began his home confinement, which is supposed to end in October.

A prison representative and Hatch's attorney told the Journal they don't know why the Newport, R.I., resident was returned to jail.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Providence, which prosecuted Hatch, also said it does not know why Hatch was sent back to jail.

Citing privacy concerns, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Bureau of Prisons in
Washington declined to comment on the reason why Hatch is back behind bars.
