NFL: Seattle 20, San Diego 14

San Diego, Aug. 16: Seattle quarterbacks Seneca Wallace and Mike Teel each threw a touchdown pass Saturday as the Seahawks defeated the San Diego Chargers 20-14.

In the debut for new Seahawks head Coach Jim Mora Jr. and the pre-season opener for both teams, Teel, a rookie sixth-round draft pick out of Rutgers, completed 7-of-15 passes for 75 yards, with one interception. Wallace connected on 8-of-12 for 40 yards, and starting quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, who played the whole first quarter, completed 3-of-5 for 27 yards.

Running back Devin Moore, a rookie, rushed for 32 yards on eight carries.
For the Chargers, Charlie Whitehurst connected on 15-of-29 passes for 193 yards and a touchdown but also threw two interceptions. Billy Volek hit receivers on 8-of-12 passes for 122 yards. Philip Rivers started at quarterback but played just two series.

On six carries, Michael Bennett rushed for 21 yards and a score, while Darren Sproles gained 11 yards on four carries.

The Chargers lost to the Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers in the divisional playoffs last season. The Seahawks, hampered by injuries, finished last year with a 4-12 record.
