More than 1M 'Ghostbusters' games sold

New York -- More than 1 million copies of "Ghostbusters: The Video Game" were sold in North America during its first month in release, Atari said Monday.

Featuring the vocal talents of cast members from the two iconic "Ghostbusters" films, the eagerly awaited video game was released June 16.

"We are very pleased with the performance of 'Ghostbusters: The Video Game,' and credit the game's quality as well as the incredible support from both the established and new fan base all helping to make this a retail success," Jim Wilson, Atari chief executive officer, said in a statement. "'Ghostbusters' appears to be a strong and relevant movie-based franchise video game independent of a brand-new theatrical release. We look forward to the continued success of the title as interest and acclaim increase across North America."
