Leslie Nielsen mourned in Hollywood

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. -- Luminaries from the entertainment world are mourning the death of Canadian-born film and television actor Leslie Nielsen.

Nielsen died of complications of pneumonia in a hospital near his home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., his family said Sunday. He was 84.

The actor was best known for his roles in the "Naked Gun" and "Airplane!" movies, as well as for his appearances on TV's "Police Squad!" "Goodyear Playhouse" and "Hawaii Five-O."
His other film credits included "Forbidden Planet" and "The Poseidon Adventure."

CNN said the actor was declared an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2003.

UsMagazine.com said numerous stars offered their condolences via Twitter upon hearing the news of Nielsen's death.

'Love' co-stars mourn Clayburgh death

New York -- The director and stars of "Love & Other Drugs" say they were heartbroken to hear cast member Jill Clayburgh had died of chronic leukemia.

She had quietly suffered from the disease for 21 years before succumbing to it this month at the age of 66.

Among Clayburgh's film credits are "An Unmarried Woman," "Starting Over," "Silver Streak," "Semi-Tough," "First Monday in October" and "I'm Dancing as Fast as I Can." She appeared on TV's "Law & Order," "The Practice" and "Nip/Tuck," had a recurring role on "Ally McBeal" as Ally's mother and was a cast member of "Dirty Sexy Money." She was an accomplished stage actress, as well.

Tot's death at Lakers game ruled accident

Los Angeles -- A toddler's fatal fall at the Staples Center after a Lakers game was an accident, the Los Angeles coroner ruled.

An autopsy of Lucas Anthony Tang, 2, determined Tuesday that he died of multiple injuries but found no foul play, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Lucas was posing with his parents and his 11-year-old sister Sunday in front of a glass barrier, but as the family reviewed the pictures on their camera, they lost track of Lucas and he somehow got over the barrier and fell nearly 30 feet. Initial reports said the child had fallen 50 feet.

Lucas, who would have turned 3 in January, was pronounced dead at a hospital Monday morning.

Suicide follows alleged ND sex assault

South Bend, Ind. -- A student apparently killed herself after an alleged sexual assault by a Notre Dame football player, an investigation by the Chicago Tribune reported.

Elizabeth Seeberg, 19, of Northbrook, Ill., a freshman at neighboring St. Mary's College with a history of depression, apparently overdosed on a prescription drug Sept. 10. The player, who was not named because he has not been charged with a crime, remains on the field, the newspaper said.

Notre Dame still refuses to acknowledge the case, the Tribune reported, and what the school did to investigate her allegation is unknown.

Campus authorities did not tell St. Joseph County, Ind., police investigating Seeberg's death about the alleged assault, officials said.

Dillinger 'death mask' sells for $3,000

Chicago -- A Chicago businessman was the $3,000 high bidder for a mold of John Dillinger's face made after the notorious gangster's death.

Ed Hirschland bought Dillinger's "death mask" Thursday for $3,000, plus $660 in fees, at an auction featuring 65 pieces of Chicago history at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Friday.

"I'm a Chicago aficionado," Hirschland said. "One of the areas that's so interesting about Chicago is crime. This is such an incredible crime item."

The plaster cast of Dillinger's face was made by Kenneth "Doc" Coffman, who got past guards at the morgue to make the mask after the gangster's 1934 death.
