The latest offering from the technological giant has justified that no other company has an edge over 'Apple' when it comes to selling. But iPad 3, a proverbial ‘hot cake’, is proving to be literal too.
Too hot to handle
Apple Inc's new iPad throws off a lot more heat than the previous version. According to a test, the third-generation iPad can reportedly get 18 percent more hotter than the iPad 2.
Consumer Reports, a widely followed group that reviews everything from consumer electronics to cars, found that Apple's new tablet racked up temperatures of 116 degrees Fahrenheit (47 Celsius) after 45 minutes of running an intense action game, up to 13 degrees F hotter than the previous model under similar conditions.
"We're doing some scientific analysis with thermal imaging," Consumer Reports spokesman James McQueen told Bloomberg. "We're also going to check with our health experts, to see whether it's an injury risk."
This study has fueled speculations upon the efficiency of the uber-gadget that in the first look by renowned analysts, was termed as the ‘best available tablet’ in the market.
"During our tests, I held the new iPad in my hands. When it was at its hottest, it felt very warm but not especially uncomfortable if held for a brief period," reviewer Donna Tapellini said in the report.
Company on the defensive
Apple Inc. was in a jiffy to defend its latest and the most awaited gadget. An Apple spokesperson said the iPad was "within the thermal specifications as set by the company."
Reasoning the heating up of the device to its bigger battery, Kyle Wiens, chief executive of iFixit, a prominent Apple repair and parts supplier, said, “Although 70 percent bigger than the one in the previous version, it still has the same battery life. So it will run hotter.”
Apprehension on iPad being ‘revolutionary’
With already a lukewarm review for the gadget, that despite of the record inaugural sales, has been cited by experts as falling short of being something revolutionary, these complaints have ignited serious apprehensions on the part of the company’s products that have been known for their uniqueness and quality, a hefty price being never an issue.
The group, Consumer Reports can be instrumental in the success or failure of consumer products. It has not yet reached a final decision on whether to recommend the latest model of Apple's tablet and has planned to release a final review on the new iPad in about five days.
