It's said that 'An apple a day keeps the doctor away.' Now scientists have now found scientific evidence.
According to study published in the 'Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry,' antioxidants found in apple help in boosting life span.
Overall, apple is capable of extending average life span by 10 years.

Apple increased life span of flies
To determine the link between apple and longevity, the researchers from Chinese University of Hong Kong investigated fruit flies.
Though fruit flies are tiny in size, they have some similar genes as humans.
The researchers found that the flies whose food was supplemented with apple lived for 55 days on average, which was five days more than the flies whose consumed normal food.
Not only the flies given the extra supplement lived longer, but they also walked and moved around more easily as they grew old.
Similar results in humans
In another study, the researchers questioned thousands of women about their food habits. They found that those ate apples on a regular basis were 20 percent less likely to have a heart attack or stroke.
A spokesman for the American Chemical Society was quoted by Daily Mail as saying, “The results, obtained with fruit flies – stand-ins for humans in hundreds of research projects each year – bolster similar findings on apple antioxidants in other animal tests.”
Antioxidants fight radicals that lead to aging
The researchers state that the antioxidants or polyphenols found in the fruit are the reason behind the life-prolonging phenomenon. Antioxidants fight the radicals that lead to aging and other diseases.

Apart from controlling damage by free radicals, apple also helps in warding off Alzheimer’s disease, colon cancer and diabetes.
Apple is also a rich source of Procyanidin B-2 which slows aging related problems, wards off wrinkles, and increases hair growth.
Other fruits and vegetables which are bright in color like tomatoes, broccoli, and blueberries, are also rich in antioxidants, but apple is considered the best among all for its antioxidant properties.
