The unique chocolate named Lola was created with cocoa from Peru and Santo Domingo. According to the manufacturers, it is 100 percent natural and tastes like normal chocolate.
Its distinctive feature is that it contains certain chemicals that deceive the brain into believing one is full, thereby checking the urge to gorge on food.
The unusual ingredients in Lola
The chocolate has acquired a slightly greenish tinge because of additional and unusual ingredients.
Lola contains the dietary supplement spirulina, a microscopic algae that contains high levels of nutrients like vitamin A and B12, which, in turn, aid weight loss. It also contains special amino acids that act as appetite suppressants.
One of Lola’s inventors, Armando Yanez stated, “People should eat one or two chocolates around one hour before a meal. They’ll feel pleasantly full and less like eating to excess. The chocolate has an intense flavor and extremely high antioxidant properties.”
On the flip side, the new chocolate contains aspartame, a substance that has not been properly tested or trialed and has been known to be hazardous for the health of some consumers.
Initial market in Spain
Lola was exhibited for the first time at the international confectionary show in Madrid last weekend. Currently the chocolate is available in Spain but the makers hope to export Lola to the UK if an interest for the product is stirred.
The price is a trifle steep with five chocolates costing around $8.50 in US dollars and about five pounds in the UK.
Benefits of chocolate consumption
Chocolate not only tastes good but is known to give a natural high. In addition, it also promotes good health. Studies show that dark chocolate is rich in flavonoids, which are natural antioxidants.
Recent studies have shown that a bar of dark chocolate helps keep heart and cardiovascular system running well. It regulates blood pressure and is also known to lower bad cholesterol.
Healthy chocolate
If you think that losing weight is all about deprivation, celery sticks and odd looking (and tasting) detox concoctions then it is time to think again. The fact is, it does not have to be hell to be healthy.
At Ador we love food that looks good and tastes good, but also happens to have added benefits, like our chocolate which contains pine nut extracts that help to keep you feeling full.
It's good to hear that another chocolate helps to keep you slim. Lola sounds great and is said to taste nice, too.
The slightly green tinge coming from the algae may not appeal to everyone, but naturally, it's horses for courses, and we're pleased that other companies are helping to champion the concept that foods normally perceived as being at best ‘naughty’ and at worst ‘bad’ can actually be enjoyed in moderation and without guilt.
The fact is, losing pounds doesn’t mean that you should eat stuff that looks, or tastes weird.
