Microsoft Office scores over Google Docs

San Fransisco, November 15 -- While Google Doc is a staunch competitor of MS Office, a recent study conducted by Mashable.com has revealed that readers' loyalties still lie with the good old Office.

In the survey, Microsoft came out victorious with a majority of 51 percent, in other words, 1365 votes, while Google Docs had 994 votes, that is 37 percent. 12 percent of people said that there was a tie between the two rivals, and that both were good.

Cassey Allen, a generic user to Google Docs posted a comment on mashable.com, saying, “I used Google Apps for a year now, and was an early adapter of Google Docs. But still now, years after their launch, they've barely evolved. Spreadsheets can't really be used for much spreadsheet use, and docs hasn't gotten any new features.

“Simply put, Microsoft, as terribly complex as their stuff is, make Google look like a bunch of lazy laggards who put out neat-o things...and then forget about them.”

Introduction of Google Docs has been seen as the end of Microsoft's monopoly over word processors. Docs is a free Web-based word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, and form application. It allows users to create and edit documents online while collaborating in real-time with other users.

Google and Microsoft competition
Google has been claiming that by next year Google docs will be a sound alternative to Microsoft Office. They have declared that they will be introducing 30 to 50 updates by next year, and will thus be capable of serving “vast majority’s needs”.

At the same time, Microsoft is going to strengthen its market position with Office 2010, or Office 14, as they call it. They would be introducing features like extended file compatibility, and user interface updates. It will be available for Windows XP SP3, Vista, and Windows 7.

Microsoft's office Web applications have a big advantage, which is that they look similar to Office 2007, which gives users an easy-to-maneuver feeling.

But most importantly, competition between these software giants have marked the beginning of free online versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, which will work in popular web browsers--Windows Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Apple Safari.

Google+Cloud > Microsoft

The cloud will win! Google is in the cloud. Learn from history. It's funny after all this time that people have not learned from history. You can't stop progress and trends. Roll with it or it rolls over you. Newspaper companies, and old companies like Microsoft who are chained to the past will lose. Google is leading the way to the future and all newspaper companies and archaic companies can do is to stay behind or hang on to the coat tails of Google.
