Cleveland, OH, November 3 -- In perhaps one of the deadliest crimes in Cleveland history, the police officials unearthed four more decomposed bodies and a skull Tuesday, in the home of a convicted rapist Anthony Sowell.

The addition of the new corpses to the six previously discovered from his property brings the count of the grisly murders to ten.

All the victims were black females and had been brutally murdered. The authorities disclosed that five of them had been strangled. However, the police did not shed any light on the gender or the races of the bodies discovered yesterday.

Sowell, a registered sex offender, was charged with five counts of murder, rape, felonious assault and kidnapping.

"It appears that this man had an insatiable appetite that he had to fill," Cleveland Police Chief Michael McGrath said.

Bodies found in and around the house
Police found the first two bodies Thursday when they went to arrest him after a woman reported being raped by him.

He was absconding at the time, but the investigators returned the following day and discovered four bodies.

Police spokesman Lt. Thomas Stacho stated that while one of the corpses was found in a shallow grave in the back garden the rest were inside the house. One body was in the basement, two in the third-floor living room and two upstairs.

Spokesperson for the Cuyahoga County Coroner said that the bodies “could have been there anywhere from weeks to months to years”.

Home and backyard thoroughly scoured
The officers tore through the three-storey house of Sowell with cadaver dogs, backhoe, jackhammers and wall saws.

They also plan to conduct a thorough search of the vacant and abandoned properties within the vicinity for potential victims of the gruesome crimes.

Michael McGrath said: “I would like to believe there is nothing else there, but we won't know until we search everything.”

The neighborhood had complained of stench wafting in the area but attributed the foul smell to a nearby cheese and sausage factory. However, the odor persisted even after the replacement of sewer lines and grease traps.

Anthony Sowell’s past shady
Last Saturday, Sowell was apprehended in connection with multiple murders at his Cleveland residence after being spotted lurking in the streets of the neighborhood by a resident.

Sowell has a shady past and was convicted of rape in 1989. He was imprisoned for 15 years before being released four years back.

After stumbling on the horrific incidents at his house the police are checking the missing person records dating back to when Sowell was released from prison.

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson while giving assurance to the anxious locals stated, “I can imagine how families feel who have reported a missing person, and anxiety that they are going through. We want to assure them as soon as we know something they will be the first to know.”
