The N97 mini handset, to be launched in October, will come loaded with features such as a QWERTY keyboard and a fully customizable home screen. It will be available for euro450.
The Espoo-based company also unveiled X3 and X6 music phones and Nokia Booklet 3G mini-laptop, to be launched in the fourth quarter.
Priced at euro450, the X6 offers 32 gigabytes of memory and can play up to 35 hours of music. The X3 is a more compact version that allows direct access to Nokia's music store and offers a built-in FM radio and camera of 3.2 mega pixel. It will be priced at euro115.
Nokia to team up with Facebook
Nokia said it has entered a location-based service deal with social networking site Facebook that will enable users to update their status on the site via a Nokia Ovi account.
"People want to bring their physical and online worlds together via the Internet. The Nokia N97 mini is designed for this new social Internet and to help navigate people and places," said Jonas Guest, vice president of Nokia Nseries.
The application will first debut on N97 mini handset, and N97 handset users will be able to update it for free in October.
Nokia has over the years diversified to include online services like downloads of music, games, maps etc. The deal with Facebook is another effort by Nokia to harness the growing wireless online services market.
Nokia Booklet 3G an improvement over predecessor
The company also unveiled details about its new laptop, dubbed the Nokia Booklet 3G. Though Nokia had earlier tried to branch out in new direction, beyond cell phones, by launching a tablet computer, it failed to yield returns.
The new Nokia Booklet 3G system is an improvement over its predecessor, and will come powered by Microsoft Windows 7 operating system.
Made of aluminum, Nokia Booklet 3G will come in a 10-inch (25-centimeter) screen and weigh 2.8 pounds (1.3 kilograms). It will be loaded with an Intel Atom 1.6 ghz chip, along with a gigabyte of memory and will also feature SIM card to access cellular networks.
The other features include Nokia services like Ovi Suite 2.0, Nokia Music for PC, Ovi Maps, and Social Hub.
The new system is expected to cost euro575. This high price could impede company’s progress to harness the netbook market as many new netbooks by Asus, Lenovo and Dell are priced at euro350 or less.
