Los Angeles, August 17: Luxury car maker Bentley formally unveiled the Bentley Mulsanne, earlier called the Grand Bentley, at the Pebble Beach Concours event in Monterey, California.

The luxury sedan, which will replace the Bentley Arnage, will feature in the Frankfurt Motor Show beginning on Sept. 15 before hitting the roads in the mid of 2010.

The Bentley Mulsanne was a performance luxury car produced by Bentley Motors Limited from 1980. The model was discontinued in 1992.

The Mulsanne, priced at about £200,000, was conceived, designed and engineered at Bentley’s headquarters in Crewe, England.

The hatchback comes with a 550HP 6.75 liter V8 engine, and will be E85 bio-ethanol compatible. The other technical details of the car have not been divulged as yet. The first teaser pictures of the beauty Mulsanne were released in July earlier this year.

Epitome of Bentley
Bentley said of the launch, “The return of the Mulsanne name to a car carrying Bentley’s iconic ‘Winged B’ emblem underlines the company’s racing pedigree and nowhere reflects that heritage better than the famed Le.”

“Mans circuit…Few places offer a stronger or more emotive connection with the Bentley marque than the famed Mulsanne corner.” It added.

The company claims that the new Mulsanne is an "epitome of Bentley" and a "fusion of extremes". Insiders claim that the car represents the ambition of the company founder W.O. Bentley.

Richard Charlesworth, director of Royal and V.I.P. relations, and head of the Bentley Heritage collection, said that Mr Bentley dreamt of a car that was "large, fast, silent and comfortable" - the "pinnacle of motoring".

90 years down the line, the company has churned out what may be termed as "a powerful and elegant driver's car like nothing else on the road".
