Arizona, May 26: Former heavy-weight champion Mike Tyson’s four-year-old daughter is in extremely critical condition and is on life support after a tragic accident in her Phoenix home, police said.

The retired boxer’s daughter, Exodus, was found with a cord around her neck following the accident. The girl accidentally became entangled in the cable of an exercise machine.

Exodus’ near-fatal strangulation
Exodus was playing on a treadmill when she accidentally got tangled in a cord or rope located under the machine’s console, according to an Associate Press report.

Tyson’s seven-year-old son, Miguel, found his sister choking on the power cable of a treadmill around 10:30 Monday morning. The boy ran to tell his mother, who removed the cord from her neck and called 911.

Phoenix Police Sergeant Andy Hill said: “Somehow she was playing on this treadmill, and there’s a cord that hangs under the console – it’s kind of a loop. She became unresponsive, the boy went and got the mother, and the mother came out and found the child."

He added: “Either she slipped or put her head in the loop, but it acted like a noose, and she was obviously unable to get herself off of it.”

After arriving on the scene, paramedics attempted to revive the child, who was unconscious. They performed CPR on the girl.

Exodus then was rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, where she remains on life support. Hill said the girl was “found to be unresponsive” and “As of this time, the child is on life support and in extremely critical condition.”

"It's just very sad. The mom is very sweet, very doting... they're just lovely, they ride their little bikes down the street," a neighbor said of Exodus’ tragic accident.

Tyson, who had been in Las Vegas, flew back to Phoenix immediately upon hearing the news.

Tyson family appeals for privacy
A statement released by a New York City public relations firm representing Tyson, on behalf of his family, read: "The Tyson family would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt thanks for all your prayers and support, and we ask that we be allowed our privacy at this difficult time."
