Los Angeles, January 6: The star of the supernatural drama series “Medium”, Patricia Arquette, is starting the year with big news by being the first actor/actress to file for divorce for the year 2009.

Arquette filed for divorce from her husband of two and a half years, actor Thomas Jane, in the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday citing “irreconcilable differences” as the grounds for the split.

The actress specified that she will not be asking for spousal support and is also requesting the court to deny spousal support for Jane.

The couple got engaged in 2002 and was married in June 2006 at the Palazzon Contarini in Venice, Italy. They have a five-year-old daughter named Harlow Olivia Calliope Jane, whom Arquette is seeking exclusive legal custody of with visitation rights to be given to Jane.

The actress is employing the services of top divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, who is also the lawyer of Kate Walsh for her divorce from Alex Young.

Thomas Jane, 39, was seen in a few episodes of “Medium” alongside his wife. He starred in the movie version of the comic book “The Punisher” in 2004 and the adaptation of the Stephen King novel “The Mist” in 2007.

Patricia Arquette, 40, is regularly seen in the NBC series “Medium.” She was also seen in the 2003 movie “Holes” and the 2006 movie “Fast Food Nation.”

Both Jane and Arquette have been previously married. Jane was married and divorced to actor Rutger Hauer’s daughter, Aysha Hauer. He was also engaged to Olivia d’Abo from 1998 to 2001.

Arquette on the other hand, was married to Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage in 1995 but got separated after only nine months. It was only in February 2000 when Cage filed for divorce, but it was later on withdrawn. Arquette then filed for divorce again in November 2000.

She has an elder son named Enzo, from her relationship with the musician Paul Ross.

It has only been a day since the divorce was filed and no comments have been obtained from both parties yet.
