Grain futures drop Tuesday

Chicago -- Grain futures closed lower on the Chicago Board of Trade Tuesday as the dollar index, measuring the dollar against major currencies, rose 0.58 percent.

Corn was off 2 to off 2 1/4, soybeans were off 9 1/4 to off 10 1/2, wheat was off 7 3/4 to off 9 1/2 and oats were off 5.

Corn futures dropped despite a rise in weekly exports compared to the previous week. Wheat prices fell as export inspections came in at 9.4 million bushels, down from the previous week's 12 million. Indications of favorable conditions in Brazil's soybean areas continues to weigh on U.S. prices.

The prices:

Corn: Mar 3.69 1/4, off 2 1/4; May 3.80 1/4, off 2 1/4; Jul 3.89 1/2, off 2; Sep 3.97, off 2.

Soybeans: Mar 9.63 1/2, off 10 1/2; May 9.70 1/4, off 10; Jul 9.75 1/4, off 9 1/4; Aug 9.68 3/4, off 9 1/4.

Wheat: Mar 5.00 1/2, off 9 1/2; May 5.14 1/4, off 9 1/4; Jul 5.26 1/2, off 8 1/4; Sep 5.42, off 7 3/4.
