Chicago, Aug. 21: Brian Roberts hit two home runs Friday, the second one putting Baltimore in front in the eighth inning en route to a 5-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

Roberts delivered a solo shot in the third and Jim Thome's homer in the fourth tied it. The score remained deadlocked at 1-1 until the Orioles broke through for four runs in the eighth.

Baltimore won its second straight and reached 50 victories for the season. Only Kansas City and Washington have yet to reach the 50-win mark.

Chicago starter Gavin Floyd (10-8) was still on the mound to open the eighth and he struck out the lead-off man. Felix Pie, however, singled to right and Roberts delivered a homer on a 1-1 pitch for a 3-1 lead.

Cesar Izturis kept things going with a double and Adam Jones was walked intentionally. Matt Thornton then relieved Floyd and was given a chance to get out of trouble when Izturis was thrown out trying to steal third.

Nick Markakis followed with a triple to drive in Jones and Markakis eventually scored on a single by Ty Wigginton.

The late surge gave the win to Jeremy Guthrie (8-12), who allowed a run on six hits over seven innings.
