CA to experiment with coloured balls for day-night Tests

Sydney, June 22: In its attempt to pioneer day-night Tests, Cricket Australia (CA) will set a mock Test with different coloured balls under lights.

CA's operations manager Michael Brown said that it would be a controlled experiment during which players would be invited at the Melbourne Cricket Guard (MCG) or the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) to face coloured balls under lights and Channel Nine will see how it looks on camera.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the experiment can be organised in the coming summer.

"Ideally, we would like to get some players along, get the cameras along, turn on the lights and see if we can have a game of cricket for an hour," Brown was quoted as saying by the daily.

"We're still a fair way away (from a day-night Test) but we're moving forward."

Yellow, lime green and white are the probable colours while the challenge for manufactures will be to make a ball that can withstand the rigours of Test cricket.
